Prospective Students

Welcome Potential Students!

The Department of Entomology encourages inquiries and applications by students interested in pursuing a graduate degree. The options are: (1) M.S. degree in Life Sciences with specialization in Entomology and (2) Ph.D. in Entomology. Most students who are interested in a Ph.D. degree should have an M.S. in a related field prior to enrolling in our Department. However, exceptional students may be considered for direct enrollment into a Ph.D. program; those who enroll in an M.S. program may be considered for a Ph.D. program by mutual consent of the student and their graduate Committee, following satisfactory completion of at least one year of graduate school. If you have specific interests, please look at the faculty and their areas of specialty. We encourage you to make contact with faculty you may be interested in working with prior to applying to Graduate School to learn more about their program and availability of funding.

The department also has financial support for Graduate Research Assistantships or Graduate Teaching Assistantships on a competitive basis. Please contact Dr. Don Mullins, Graduate Coordinator (mullinsd@vt.edu) if you have any general questions regarding attending Graduate School within our Department.
